Disabling peer-to-peer file sharing

Disabling peer-to-peer file sharing

Downloading or distributing copyrighted material without explicit permission from the copyright owner is against the law. The information below describes how to disable file sharing on the most common peer-to-peer (P2P) clients. If your particular client is not listed here, you are not exempt from the restrictions against distributing copyrighted material.

If you use a peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing client which isn't listed below, please contact us via email at copyright@iu.edu with the name of the client, the method by which we can acquire a copy for evaluation, and, if possible, instructions on how to disable outbound file sharing.

CAUTION!

Use these instructions as a guide for disabling your client. The only way to ensure total compliance with copyright laws is to completely uninstall sharing applications. Use peer-to-peer (P2P) software at your own risk. Ultimate responsibility for your network usage falls on you.
